Dear Swimmers and Families
Parents and swimmers we appreciate your adherance to Vassar College Pool and the Union Ave Y pool rules and your future commitment to being a "good guest" of their facilities.
6/3/11 -Hi everyone, please see below from Rachel Ruth (Natia’s mom) regarding a dedication ceremony for Natia this Sunday 6/5. In light of the ceremony we have decided to move this Sunday’s practice to 11-1 to give families an opportunity to go to the ceremony, if they wish, without missing practice.
6/1/11 -Dear Devilfish friends,
It's been a long time coming, but Paul and I finally found the tree and boulder we want for Natia's memorial spot in Poughkeepsie and had them placed down by the Hudson. A plaque will be put on next week. They are near the shore at the north end of the Hudson River Rowing Association Community Boathouse (near the little bridge). We went down there last night to water the tree, watch the sunset and think about Natia. It was lovely and peaceful. I hope you all get a chance to go there as well. And please share this with the team, other teams, and anyone else you feel would like to know.
Please be aware that the docks may be in use for regattas, rowing practice or other events. It is their site, but anyone is welcome to visit, anytime. You are also invited to come to the Boathouse on Sunday June 5, 2-4pm for the dedication of the 2 Poughkeepsie Crew double shells that were bought by the team in memory of Natia. One is already named the "Natalia Rose."
In case you need directions:
Access to the Boathouse is from Water Street (by Waryas Park - turn north between Dooley Square and the River Station Restaurant, drive past the Metro North parking garage and the Children's Museum and follow the road another 1/2+ mile, then cross the track spur to go down the hill). The gate is usually open, but if not, it is fine to walk down the road, or the stairs by the Vassar boathouse. It is also possible to drive down through the little tunnel to the river at Marist, drive south past the pavilion, then walk across the parking lots (usually chained closed) about 1/10 mile to the HRRA boathouse. (I think there is some open parking by the Marist boathouse, but if not, there is before the pavilion.)
In loving friendship, Rachel and Paul
5/26/11 - No Practice Friday 5/27/11.
5/25/11 - Dear Families,
The board has been working on the merge with the Patriots swim team, but has concluded that the coach-owned business model of the Patriots team and the board-owned model of the Devilfish are not a good match. Therefore, Devilfish will not be merging with the Patriots, and will continue as the awesome Devilfish.
Thank you,
Sandy Graham, President Board of Directors
5/13/11 - Dear Families,
Just a reminder for use of Vassar College.
Please, no parents on the pool deck. Street shoes are not permitted in that area. If you are waiting for a young swimmer, please wait for them either inside the locker room, in the hallway, or in the observation area.
Locker rooms need to be left in good condition, with all showers turned off, trash removed, and lockers closed. Regarding the use of the suit dryers, please talk with our younger swimmers regarding use of this piece of equipment. It is not a toy to be played with.
Finally, we do not have permission to use any area in the building other than the pool and observation areas just outside the pool. Fortunately the weather is becoming nice, and if we need to stretch our legs, or run off some extra energy in our kids, the great outdoors is right there for our use.
Thank you and have a super weekend.
Regards,
Sandy
5/11/11 - Just wanted to spread the word that the Poughkeepsie Crew team is planning to dedicate the two boats (doubles) they got in honor of Natia on Sun. June 5, in the afternoon (2ish, I think). Please pass this along to anyone else you think might be interested. Thanks, Rachel
